1 yr post surgery mri/mra failure

Well just got home from seeing my neurosurgeon this morning.....AND after waiting for a 1 yr clearance i didnt exactly get the news i wanted....

Had my MRI on Friday and due to my clips the MRI/MRA has caused an obstruction on the viewing of the scans...so in other words they cannot see anything.

Neuro didnt want me to do Angio as there are too many risks and the one i did days after my surgery revealed all the AVM had been removed....

WHATS NEXT.........

Well in another year i have to get a CT Scan as she believes it will show more and then in 5 yrs i will have an Angio again.

She was pretty confident everything was okay and from what she could see on all scans there were no other issues. She has based her opinion on the past scans day after surgery and what she could see on the current scans.

She said it is very rare for AVM's to return in adults but wanted to check anyway for precaution.

Im pleased but really want the 'go now and never come back' speech from her....i will continue to pray and keep you guys informed.

God bless

I know the feeling of wanting a definite answer, but it sounds like this is great news! It's very much like the steps my husband went through after his treatment. His most recent appointment was 5 1/2 years after the final treatment, and the doctor is just now willing to say "go away", after all that time of everything staying stable.

You might want to double-check about whether you could have your CT now, since it might set your mind at ease. But if she isn't ordering a CT now, she must be very confident in what she's been able to see on the previous scans.

I imagine it is frustrating not to know if your AVM is obliterated for sure, but it doesn’t seem like your doctor is worried. I will pray that you truly are AVM-free.

Thanks guys...yeah i trust my neurosurgeon as she works with children a lot and as much as i want that final check up i know she is confident everything is okay...God bless
