Aphasia Friends

If you have Aphasia (see below) there is now a new Group for us called Aphasia Friends. Join that Group if you wish to discuss our issues with Aphasia! Thanks!

Aphasia is an acquired language problem caused by damage to the brain in the hemisphere responsible for communication.

Aphasia affects all modes of expressive and receptive communication including speaking, writing, reading, understanding and gesturing.

That's great Weezie, but how are those with aphasia going to read or understand what's been posted??!! HAHAHA!! OK, I'm sorry. You know I don't mean to be insensitive and I love you to the moon and back. I was just teasing. Only those of us that truly understand get to make fun of ourselves!

Trish, you know how much I adore you! It may take us quite some time to read and understand what we are reading but I somehow always understand you!

Too anyone who HASNT had an aphasic problem - get a book, any type thats not english langauge - anyone that you cant understand. French, spanish, german, Arabic maybe!? Once you have your book, close your eyes; upon the book, to any page. With your eyes still closed, think "im aphasic...." - open your eyes, and try to read. Try to think, that the book u have, the langauge u could read, has now been wiped, into some weird area that doesnt make any sense anymore. Now, imgaine the frustration.....yeah, it sucks!

I am so greatful that I know have very, very helpful friends who have and understand Aphasia. Our job now is to help new AVM'rs that have aphasia that are starting on this hard, hard journey. If I didn't have Jake, Ninabeth and you Rich..I would have felt very alone. Thanks for being my friends and let's try to help others to know that they are not alone!
