I was wondering if anyone else has an AVM in their arm.
I’ve been told mine starts in my elbow and through my muscle. I was wondering what symptoms other people have and if they have been cured???
I have a newly diagnosed AVM in my right forearm (dominant arm). I first noticed it as a small painless bump 4 years ago. As of a year ago it started to grow. I thought it was a lipoma or fatty deposit. It was soft and appeared skin colored. Over the past year it has grown and became more obviously circulatory. It appears bluish under the skin like a vein. I sometimes had some aching in my arm or some numbness and tingling but it was not often and was easy to put off as overuse or having slept on it wrong or unknowingly injured it in some way. This past August it suddenly became very painful, very firm, and thinking it was a varicose vein I assumed it popped. I had not struck it but thought perhaps I had leaned on it and put pressure in just the right spot or something. I waited for bruising that never came. The extreme pain in my arm lasted a couple maybe three days and went away. Then this occured again 3-4 more times each more closely together. Each time the bump grew. I still don't know exactly what these incidents were but doubt they were ruptures. As it became larger I realized I can feel my pulse in it. Now my arm aches almost all the time. Nothing I take seems to really help. I have almost constant numbness and tingling in my fingers and hand especially my last two fingers (that is the side the AVM is on). Now veins near the AVM are puffed out as if I have a tourniquet on my arm so they must be under more pressure. The aching has always been more generalized but the last few days i have also developed a feel right at the site of the AVM like the pain associated with a nasty bruise. It's kind of hard to get a picture of it but you can sort of see how it sticks out and how the vein near it is so puffy. I am having surgery monday (in 3 days) to attempt to remove it. The doctor is quite confident though he has told me it can recur.
