Good evening. My daughter - 30 years old from Wylie TX has been undergoing treatments for her AVM in her right leg extremity for about 3 years. She is undergoing treatments in CO with Dr. Yakes and is pleased with him. She has had 6 treatments of alcohol embolizations and coils inserted will be returning for more treatments in 2013.
She has read in Dr. Yakes information about coils - that they actually are inserted so that the alcohol will not escape to places it shouldn't...somehow keeping it in the areas where it needs to go. (Alcohol is hard to see - not like glue embolizations where you can see exactly where it is being applied to the veins and arteries). Do any of you know or have experienced long-term effects of coils and alcohol embolizations?
Merry Christmas and thank you to all who make this support group possible for those suffering with AVMs!
