# Brain Injury Survivor ID Card

I recently received a Brain Injury Suvivor ID Card from the Brain Injury Association of Rhode Island.
Because I have aphasia because of the brain damage done by my brain bleed, I have a problem telling people what I want a stores, the library, etc. etc. With this Card, I can show it to people I need help from.
It is my understanding that all Brain Injury Associations can provide you with this card.
My card has already helped me when I couldn't say what I wanted to say at my local library. The lady at the library added it to my profile so that know they can help me since I have a problem reading and saying what book I want.
I keep my card with me at all times in case I need help. Call your local Brain Injury Association and ask for your own card.

Thank you so much for sharing this Louisa and is something that each and every one of us should be carrying with us at all times! I will definately be looking into this but not even sure were my local Brain injury assoc is here in NH. How did you find your local Brain injury Assoc?

I posted my comment on the wrong discussion...oops! The brain assoc. in my state said they don't issue such cards. Not sure where to go from here.

I forgot to write what is in the middle of the card:
Here is what is written on the middle of the card:
The purpose of this card is to explain symptoms of brain injury that may be misintepreted as a mental illness or alcohol/drug related. A person with a brain injury might have speech, phsical, thinking or behaviorl problems. I I may talk slow and have slurred speech. I might have difficulties understanding what you say or responding to your questions. My gait might be unsteady or my coordination impaired. I could have concentration and memory problems. Due to my injury, I might cry or laugh easily. I may be restless or become anxious.
I will work with you to the best of my ability. Please contact the person or perons on the card if help is needed.

Thank you for the reminder, they offer something like this in Canada. I'll make sure my husband gets one. Docs mentioned it when he was first in hospital, but I forgot to follow up.
