Hey everyone! I had my surgery and it was successful! Dr. Camarata was able to obliterate the AVM and remove the clot. The AVM was at T-8 and they had to lemmy two vertebra to get it all. This has has now been confirmed by a follow up Angio. The word 'cured' was great to hear, even though it was a reference to the avm and clot not the effects of the bleed.
My Left leg is much worse than it was prior to surgery. I can move it but control is limited due to feedback issues. The Neurologist said that he sees no reason I won't walk again, but that the numbness and tingling can get better it will be a very, very slow process and likely never be normal.
My surgery was on the March 8th so this is all new and was just wanting some feedback from others on their experience.
Thanks,
Doug
Hi Doug:
My name is Rosario. I am part of the community since August 2011 (around). I was born with a vascular tumor, 2 avms along my spine and recently the doctors found a vascularized tumor at the end of my spine (sacrum) and left hip (big one). I am been trated at the Miami Project, unfortunately, there is not so much to do. THey will try to remove at least the tumor in my hip... but it will be a long process. If they cannot do anything else I am planning on looking for other opinions.. Your case sounds similar to one of the issues that I have. Could you provide me with the information about the Hospital and Doctor(s) that are treating you?. Thanks in advanced.
Doug,
I found this support site many months ago but just decided to give it a try. My issue with my spinal AVM is very close to your description and thought I would see if I could make contact with you and learn more about your recovery. My operation was Jan 2013 at Emory University in Atlanta by Dr. Daniel Barrow. My avm was at T9, so very close to what you experienced, if you can give me your thoughts I would be most appreciative.
