Gamma knife treament

Aron!

So happy to hear back from you and that you are doing well back from your Gamma Knife procedure!

I have never had GK however from reading on these forums, I don’t believe numbness around the area is uncommon but then again - I am not the best person for opinions/knowledge on this area. I am sure we will have more experienced avmers on that topic.

Every case is differant and unique, just like every one us - some people have many side effects, others very few. I ofcourse am sending all the positive energy and wishes hoping you continue to recover swiftly

I believe in terms of what to do - listen to your specialists advice and dont hesitate to contact them if you have any concerns or any changes that alarm you. Try to be patient with yourself and leave it to the GK to work its magic to eliminate this AVM. If you feel in yourself that your feeling strained or tired, dont feel bad to take it easier - no one knows how you feel better than you do after all.

Best wishes,

Corrine

Aaron: Welcome to the AVM-ers club. I have been following your post. Sounds like you handled your Gamma Knife procedure like the champ we all are. I had mine in 2015. My side effects included pain where they screwed the halo into my head; numb scalp made my hair feel like crunchy corn flakes; headaches for about 3 days; and the need for a lot of naps for a few days. My AVM is 50% gone right now. In April, 2018 I will have my second G.K. procedure in hopes of zapping this monster right out of my head! My absolute recipe for dealing with my AVM is P&P (Prayer & Patience). Wishing you the best.

Sharon D…

Thank you corrine and sharon. The side effects are not to bad i didnt have any headaches so far. The numbness in my scalp makes me uncomfortable but i can handle it. After my GK i stayed in the hospital for 1 night for observation. They just give me mefenamic for pain and continue using keppra. I have alot of question expecting that my neuro will visit me before discharge but he didnt came because he has an emergency operation. So i have alot of pending questions. Haha. Hello sharon. Did your neuro told you that you will have another GK right after your first GK? I dont have any idea if i will have a second GK because my neuro is busy that day. Sorry for my english haha. Takecare all of you God is Good.

Aron, I had gamma knife last November 10th. I had some numbness for about a month and it went away at some point. It was slowly getting less and less so I didn’t even notice until after the fact, one day just realized it was no longer numb. I had some mild head aches and some weird feelings that are hard to describe, but nothing that I felt the need to seek medical opinion. I had my one year MRI a few weeks back and looks like I’ll wait another year fro an MRI and/or angio. The numbness should subside, may be some swelling at the site, it often shows up a little further down the road. Sounds like you were doing just like me a couple weeks out from treatment. Take Care, John.
