High blood pressure can increase the chance of a rupture. It is important to control blood pressure when you have an avm.
My blood pressure stays low unless I’m having a panic attack. Since we don’t know when ill have one, I am on a blood pressure medicine daily. Please talk to your gp about controlling your blood pressure and you may want to make some lifestyle changes to help your body as well. Journaling is helpful ti find triggers of headaches and stress always drives up b/p. Meditation helps ad well. American stroke association website has alot of helpful tips for lowering blood pressure, too. Good luck!!
Hi Maybell,
When I was in the Neuro ICU, with my first bleed, the Neurosurgeons stated it was VERY important to keep my blood pressure low. I laughed at the time because I had NEVER had blood pressure issues prior to the bleed. He knew I was going to have issues after that bleed, because now I have to take blood pressure medication. Last year, I let myself run out of my medicine, and forgot to take it for a few days. It got very high. I then went back on my BP medication, once I realized what had happened. However, when my BP started dropping back down to normal, I had another bleed because of the flucuation of blood pressure in my vessels. It's so very important. Always make sure you take your meds. :) Praying for you!
I always had low blood pressure until my bleed. Ever since then it's been running high. But yes, higher BP can increase the chance of a bleed.
Hi, I have a scalp avm and I asked the neurosurgeon if there was anything I should or shouldn't do and he said to keep my blood pressure down. Luckily for me my blood pressure is ok.
