?Houston/Dallas Area AVM specialists?

My daughter in law was diagnosed with an AVM Friday, May 7. WHAT AN EDUCATION ! I did not even know they existed. She currently is in ICU, has been since Friday. I was wondering if anyone knew of a specialist in the Houston or Dallas area that we need to see, besides the doctors that are currently attending to her . We are so scared, and really want the best doctor we can get !!

Paul, I had mine treated in Dallas. The top place in Dallas is UT Southwestern. Any surgeon there is top notch. I had Jonathan White and Tony Whitworth.

Paul, Dr. Duke Samson at UTSW is very well respected all across the world. I like to call him the “quarterback” of the docs that Ben mentioned there at UTSW. He will shoot you straight and probably has the most experience with AVM’s in TX if not the country. If surgery is the best option, Dr. Samson is the one surgeon I would trust with my life with! Let me know if I can answer any questions, I will be hoping for the best for ur daughter in-law and family. -GK

My daughter in law was diagnosed with an avm on wed. May 5. She just gave birth to a baby girl on April 9. This is what caused her to bleed. It is large. 5cm and it is located in the front right side. She is home now. Her brain needs to reduce the swelling. We are in Albany NY. Six to eight weeks she will need brain surgery. We are all in shock! She is tewenty nine. We are trying to find any thing to hold on to. We are looking up surgeons and people who know all about this nightmare. I thought we were alone in this. I know just how you feel. One day at a time. I finally get the meaning.

In Houston see Dr. Richard Mims, associated with St. Lukes. Did brain surgery on my avm and saved my life.

Yes…I know how you feel…
I did not know AVM’s existed…
My daughter in law’s is also front right side…!
I’m glad you and I found this site…so far these AVM ‘groupies’ have been very supportive and informative!!!
I will pray for your family, and for you all to find the ‘right’ doctors !!!

In Dallas, Dr. Brent C. Morgan of Methodist, Richardson Spine and Neuro Center performed my AVM resection.
