How Facing Death (Eg. Stroke, War) Changes A Person Psychologically

AVMSurvivors, I just came across this interesting article that reaffirms what we all know.

"People who have come close to perishing, on the other hand, see things differently...they had undergone a fundamental reexamination of their values."

I know it changed my priories and my life forever! I take the time to love my family and to tell them every day and to treasure all the little gifts and not the material gifts.

Thank you for sharing this Ben...so very true! As ironic as this sounds, being an AVM survivor has certainly enriched my life in so many ways!!!

My whole 'world' changed completely after surgery. "Life" has never been and will never be the same again. Now, I appreciate 'everything' & my family, friends & the AVM Site & friends I have met here, like never before. Coming so very close to death, has made me realise that I never know what is around the corner of life, so I always stop and "smell the roses" and do my best to assist others as I believe that is why I survived.
That's a great topic Ben!

Hi Ben - Great article. Although I probably think somewhat differently on the issue, this experience has definitely reinforced that life is both short and a crap shoot and has given me a greater focus on appreciating everyday things.

You never know when will be your last second of life...so you may as well check off some of your bucket-list items. I whole-heartedly agree with Lesley that life will never be the same.

Thanks for sharing this, Ben!
