II can’t sleep. I stay up til 7am sometimes and wake up at 9am (first alarm for meds)and can’t sleep so I start my day. Is this bc of the meds I am taking or is it something else?
It very well be because of whatever meds you may be on. You should definitely check with your doctor to rule that out first. I too struggle with bouts of insomnia often. For me it's just that I can't turn my brain off, it just won't settle. It's very frustrating. I found that Yoga helps me. Also and always as a last resort I take an over the counter non-addictive pill that helps. I don't like to rely on drugs for sleep, but I also know that I'm so much worse if I don't get enough sleep. Good luck.
It is possible it could be the meds. Also, possible your brain has re-wired itself. I know someone who was hit by a car and dragged underneath it. Because of her TBI she rarely sleeps now. Talk to your doctor and see if a time released melatonin might help you.
I don't know what meds you're taking but I have become somewhat of an insomniac since my bleed a year ago. I'm only on Keppra, I take Imitrex for migraines but it's not a daily thing. When I was in rehab post-op they kept warning me about my napping while there. They said I was putting myself at risk for a backwards sleeping pattern-turning my days into nights and what-not. Now I'm up until 4am and I sleep until noon. It is very unhealthy but whenever I try to correct my "days" I'm suffering from a migraine OR my left side (I'm hemiparetic) will be incredibly tight for that day, making it difficult for me to walk, talk, shower...it's a vicious cycle. You should definitely talk to your Dr. about it if you're concerned it's your meds.
Did you have a stroke? Since many AVM folks have strokes this is a common problem. Strokes mess often mess with your time clock...
