Let's have a PET talk

Yes, you read that right. Let's talk pets.

From the scaled ones to the furry ones, that goldfish in a bowl to a majestic horse, a majority of us, if not all, have at least one.

And for various reasons: a hand down from a dear friend, a guide/guard dog, therapy. I even shared a blog here about pets detecting illnesses.

So let's start sharing some: post something about your pet, a story, pictures! We love to see them!

And perhaps start a group on pets as well.

Let me start the ball rolling with mine. Here's a picture of my pet.

NAH, just kidding! I can't afford a TIGER. I can only wish. Here are my adorable shih-tzus.

Aren't they as cute a they get?

Those puppies are too cute!!

Me and my boyfriend are huge animal lovers specifically dogs. We were the proud parents of three wonderful dogs, however two of them passed away last year within 6months of each other.

We do however have a third dog named Cooper who is my pride and joy. He is part lab part weiner dog (no idea how that happened). He looks like a lab puppy even though he is now 5!!! About 2.5 years ago he ruptured a disk in his back and required emergency surgery to have it fenstrated but he is all healed up now and loves to go for long walks and swim. He also loves to talk on the phone! He currently lives with my boyfriends mum and dad as we have a 2 story house and because of his back issues he is not supposed to climb stairs.

The first pic is of my Cooper and the second is of Shelby and Bailey who both passed in 2012.

They're so adorable, Lindsay!

I'm a dog person, too! Aside from the two shih-tzu's we kept (gave the other one to my brother) we also have a native Philippine breed which we keep as a guard dog. Had a Siberian Husky once. We called her Dixie. Huskies just don't live that long in our kind of climate. Brought me tears when she got too old and we had to put her to sleep.

But I don't shy away from having other pets as well.

I had a flock of harlequin's a few years back. Somehow they learned to unlock their cage and one morning we just woke up and they're all over our mango tree! They flew away later to a small forest nearby.

We also had a 75-gallon fish tank where we kept several freshwater ornamental fishes. I love the tank! I can sit in front of it for hours observing the mini ecosystem we created. It was hypnotic! When we moved, we don't have a space for it so we gave it to another sibling.

I heard that disk issue is common with Dachsunds/wieners. Your Cooper must have taken that after his wiener parent. I can see the mix in his picture. Thanks for sharing!

Hello
we have four indoor cat-Smokey who is a Maine Coon 26lbs, Koko who is blind Tabby and literally has half a brain, Mia who is Siamese, Charlie Girl who was a foster who never left and a cat who comes by every day who we named Bruno. I also volunteer at a no kill bare bones shelter called Nine Lives in Redwood City. I would love to have a dog I love all animals. We have many bird feeders and we also feed the squirrels two years ago they started to eat my tomatoes and that was the year my husband bought all the gear to start canning needless to say we have yet to can any. I have some photos on my page I have a new laptop and dont have any loaded-

I have 3 Akitas & 2 Whippets. Also have 2 aquariums.

Blaze (Tamarlane's Dragonfire) has several agility titles. She "retired" due to an ACL injury.

Teddy (Ch. Kobu's Kount on the Ruff Rider) is a conformation champion, Versatile Akita, has agility titles & one Rally title.

Gwen (Ch. MaJer's Harajuku Girl) was 1/2 way to her Grand Championship when we retired her this winter. We had her hip check done & she came back dysplastic, so she's been spayed. My next goal for her is to work on her CGC & then train/certify her for therapy work.

Kuma the Whippet (GCh Liberty's Wanna Be Your Teddy Bear) just finished his Grand Championship today! He has one lure coursing title, too. He's under 2 years old, so he has more to come!

Geena (Liberty's League of Her Own) is my miracle puppy. She escaped from the yard & was hit by a pickup truck 2 days before Thanksgiving. She had multiple fractures. She had 2 surgeries that week and had 2 more last week. And I'm trying to keep her from RUNNING! She's on "crate rest" while she heals. She is quite the little Diva, and lets you know that you had best come say hello to her if you attempt to walk on past. We are confident that when Blaze (the current matriarch of the pack) passes on that little Miss Geena will take over.

Whoah! Great bloodline's you have there, A Colllins. I'm a-checking their pictures on your profile later, if there some.

I pray your Geena recovers quickly from her injuries.

I'm elevating this discussion to start a Group on Pets and Animals. I hope to see you there, too. I'll send invites.

We'll look forward to those pictures, Angela!

I agree with Lindsay, those are super cute puppies. I love animals as well and love cats, but am a dog person. I love elderly dogs (as you'll see) and Cooper, wow he's cute (and I bet loved a lot). I am the parent of two doggies, but one passed away Christmas Eve 2011. Her name was Sophie (the dark one). Taylor (her sister) is still with me (the blond one) and gets a bunch of love. While I adopted them both when they were about 8 months old, Taylor is about 16 years old now.

Someone said that pets are good for AVMers. I can't agree more. But it goes much farther than pets for people affected by AVMs. They work miracles for everyone. :J

Hi Armando - I have two cats which their unofficial father is caring for them currently…one of which I’m pretty sure that he is a tiger the other 10-20% of the time that he’s not sleeping or eating.

They’re both in their mid-80s (in human years), but they act and are as frisky and curious as kittens.

oops - when I say "unofficial" that means non-biological :)

and - regarding the one cat, I'm pretty sure that he thinks that he's part tiger...one of his nicknames is "vicious tiger" b/c he's neither.

The other cat survived a 2-floor laundry shoot "adventure" after the vet. initially said that he might never walk again...a huge inspiration to me that he actually did walk, jump, etc. after the steroid shot.

They were both strays, and both are very loveable, of course.

So cute - I'm such a sucker sometimes.

OMG - 3 puppies = 3x the cuteness

I LOVE IT!

I can't imagine life without our feline babies, Jas, Leo & Charles! :)
Our beloved 'Sammy' passed on to the other side over the summer.
Having a pet(s) enriches our lives in many ways...
