New member introduction - Ryan

I had a left temporal lobe avm and it was treated successfully with 3 gammaknife zaps. Im very lucky. It took less than 3yrs. It was a grade 5 and Im 51 yrs old. I hope it works for you too.

By the way, I’ve asked where the output from the surveys went (it was back in 2012) and nobody I’ve found remembers… it was just rather too long ago. However, I think it is interesting to see the input information and it may still be helpful to future generations to continue to answer the questions. No bad at all.

if you don’t mind me asking. have you had any noticeable side effects after the gamma knife surgeries? (temporary and permanent) mine is a grade 4 in the same place. the gamma knife specialist i saw was really hesitant to do surgery cause he thought it might mess up my speech recognition. considering seeing other specialists. he’s the second neurosurgeon i’ve talked to, the other was a conventional surgeon.

I saw that yours was in the same spot and pretty close in size too. I must say that things are constantly changing. Mostly for the better. The gammaknife for me was a blessing. The seizure i had was rough. The swelling and soreness was causing major problems. Maybe some swelling with the radiation too but the trauma, and meds, were knocking me out daily. I slept and slept as much as possible. Its all i wanted to do really. But…its gotten better. Much better actually. Im very grateful for the treatment recieved to be very honest with you. But both opinions i sought, suggested gammaknife. I didnt even go to the 3rd and chose UC Colorado Anschutz and they did me right. Dr Joshua Seinfeld was my man. Im very lucky.
I know each avm is different though. I would not compare situations. Your tangle might be different in many ways. I wish i could really help you like i was helped. Heres a pic of mine before treatment. And now its gone. Im still getting used to it.
