Occupational therapy-arm and hand improvement

Thank you!

Wow nice to hear that 100%recovery is possible.

MY WIFE IS A AVM Survivor (bleed/hemorrhage SHE HAD A RESECTION CRANIOTOMY IN OCTOBER 1998.

HER RIGHT HAND WAS TOTALLY PARALYZED AND HAD A PULMONARY EMBOLISM AND PNEUMONIA ALL HAPPENING AFTER THE SURGERY .she was affected with right leg weakness and speech aphasia . after six weeks and a lot of therapy she was released from the hospital . she then went to kessler rehab in new jersy as an outpatient .after 9 months of therapy they stopped therapy and said therapy wouldnt help her as arm was
moving just a bit and her speech was very bad . she was extremely depressed as she was a well known interior designer and architect in the new york area . we hired a private ot that came to our house . with tremendous therapy she was able to use her fingers and her right hand as well as her right leg her speech aphasia as well came back but only 50 pct . her right arm she can carry cook drive but does not have fine motor movement . against all odds she survived this ordeal ... doctors and therapists dont have all the answers . its in the power of the patient and god good luck fight all the odds and you will win

Vanessa,

If you are doing that much recovery ALREADY, I bet you are going to recover well for a long, long time! Our 'Power From Within' can do SO MUCH from what our doctors might tell us. I KNOW, because I DID! When I started to recover, I was ½ paralyzed, blinded, could not walk, talk etc. I was in 2 recovery facilities for over a year, but, physically, I got everything back.

Good, good luck to you and may God Be With You.

Lisa

Thanks michael!

Thanks!

Wow thats so nice tohearlisa!

Thank you!yourwife is so lucky to have you by her side during all of this.

I found a good website with advice for handling after surgery. http://www.everywhereist.com/20-things-you-can-expect-after-brain-surgery/

My OTused ice chips today on my extensor and flexor muscles

Hope that and the rest of your therapy helps you regain function.

Take care,
Debbie

Use it, use it, use it! The more you use it a) the more that your muscles recover their strength and b) the more that neuro-connections are made! You said they feel weak; that means that they have movement already. It only can get better from now on; but you have to use it for everything!

What you are going thru sounds like a VERY NORMAL healing process!

T I M E is what helps us heal the most, and we all need to have more PATIENCE to recover. I know, because I DID.

Here was something that I did, and I think it helped me: In recovery, they might tell me to do 10 leg lift. The crazy lady that I was, I sometimes did maybe one or two EXTRA lifts (or whatever it was). Be safe, but always try to a strong recovery person!

Good, good luck to your bright future!!

Lisa
