Pain

I am suffering from pain that is non-stop all day everyday. I have an appt monday with a new pulmonologist to do my yearly follow up and really wanted to be educated what others do for pain so I have some information in my head. Right now they have me Tylenol 3. Pretty much I take one at bedtime each day and then I am using ibuprofen and Tylenol therapy to exist. However I just read ibuprofen is bad…but that seems to really help…at a lose and tired of hurting all day everday. Ontop of that I have a new pain in my elbow feels just like my side pain…truly afraid it’s another avm. Feedback anyone?

Hi CC,

Sorry, don't have any specific suggestions for you. Think your best source will be your DR. If the DR doesn't seem to offer any good ideas, you might ask him to refer you to a pain management specialist.

I would be very cautious about some of these pain centers. A few I believe turn out to be pill mills that are more interested in selling stuff than in minimizing pain without constant addiction.

Best wishes,

Hi CC,

I live with chronic pain too. When I first wake up in the morning, I can barely move. I see a pain management dr. and he has me on dilaudid, 4mg 3 x day. That helps me immensely. Some people have good luck with less potent pain meds other than an opiate (dilaudid is an opiate) such as vicodin or something like it.

Ibuprofen is a tricky one - Even though it helps with the inflammation, it also thins your blood. Don't get me wrong, I still take it on occasion but, you need to be careful of taking it to regularly.

Good luck to you. I know living with constant pain is not easy.

Ben

Here's a tid-bit on dilaudid (smiles). I've had quite a few dr.s through the years tell me it's the strongest pain med they can prescribe. It's a type of morphine but, its' stronger than plain morphine. I always question them: "Then how come it doesn't take care of my migraines?" They simply told me: "All pain meds have their limitations" (smiles). So they usually give me vicodin when my migraines last too long, 5 days or more. (I'm use to them lasting 3 days)

Oh my gosh! You sound just like me. I never heard of pain management either until a close friend of mine suggested it to me. I want tell you too, I also get nerve blocks done every 3 months. They help me the best. The only problem with them is, they only last about 6 weeks. Go figure. But,.. I can function normally while they last and.. I don't need to take my meds as much either.

I also have chronic pain. It was live able the first few years after surgery.
But now 13 years since my surgery I have terrible migraines and a ache in my head which is everyday. I take Percocet on a regular basis. It makes working difficult so I only take a little. Trying to get into a pain clinic.
