Radiosurgery side effects

Hi everyone just wondered if any of you could help me out, I had SRS back in April 2012 for an avm in my left parietal lobe, recently I have had a few strange symptoms I never had previously, waking up during the night dizzy and then waking in the mornin still dizzy, a lot more tingling, major fatigue, feeling kind of "out of it" every now and then (although this seems to last only a minute at max), weight gain (xmas maybe!) just funny things I never experienced before SRS, do any of you think this is worth checking into, it doesnt entirely affect my everyday life, I am able to work part time but am exhausted afterwards, do you think these new symptoms are late side affects of radiation?? I have not had a checkup since the radiation but am due for one in April/May this year, Any responses greatly appreciated, thanks :)

JillNZ, I could call your doctor's office and explain your symptoms. They may want to see you before your next appt. Stay Strong!

Hi JillNZ,

I'm leaning more towards you may have an ear infection or the start of a cold or the flue. A sinus infection can make you feel that way too. At least it does that to me. What ever the cause is - I would most certainly see a dr. about it and get checked out.

Thanks guys, maybe a trip to my GP may help provide some answers :)

Definitely call your neuro team about this too. I had a bunch of nonspecific symptoms and it turned out to be brain swelling. Once the swelling got really bad and turned into radiation necrosis it was really obvious to my neuro team that the non specific things I’d been having were a precursor. Not saying that this is what is happening to you, but it’s definitely worth asking your docs about it. If it were me, I’d call your neurologist as well as your GP and ask them both. Best of luck with this!

Thanks Jessica, cant help but wonder when they were not usual symptoms of my avm, will definitely be looking into it just to be sure, hope yr doin ok :)

Focal partial seizures. Tell your team.

Thanks Stephanie, wondered that, will do :)

Hi Jill,

I had radiosurgery back in June of 2011 and experienced some of these effects after my radiation treatments including tingling and a lot of fatigue which I still have to this day but will tell you that it has gotten so much better :)! I had my follow-up from my radiation last May and received the most wonderful news that there are no longer any signs of the residual AVM they were treating with radiation :)! So, these effects that you are feeling now could be a sure sign that the radiation treatment you had is doing its job :)! yet it is always good to stay in touch with your doctor if these effects persists for an extended period of time with no relief.

Hang in there and know that things will improve!!
