Should I look for more AVMs

My son just had a AVM removed from his left leg. He has recently started to blink constantly. I am wondering if he has another AVM in the spinal region as I hear this may be a symptom. Is it a good idea to look for other AVMs? What is your experience?

When I was 8, I had two avms “removed” from my right leg along with my soleus muscle. They “re-emerged” almost immediately afterwards in other areas of my leg. Some doctors consider the AVM to have “Moved” while some told us that it was more likely that the lesions were already there and would emerge as I grew. That’s what I’ve seen now that I’m 33, and have been dealing with this for so long. Go back, get an MRI. Do the contrast if you have to. Make sure he’s completely free of AVM.

Hi Michelle

I have spinal avm and my doctor did suggest I did a brain ct scan to be safe side, I did and the result is brain avm-free. Yes, I agree to play safe and at least be sure of the brain as it tends to be more common on the brain.

Thanks for your responses. It is just a matter of getting the insurance to approve another MRI. I have to speak with the doctor about how this can happen. I know there is not alot of awareness about the nature of AVMs amongst the medical community. I asked the surgeon if I should get a scan to check to see if there were other AVMs and he flat out said NO. He said that unless he is symptomatic there is no reason to do so. But I just have a feeling that I dont want to wait that long. I would really like to know more about your story Melinda. If you could share with me I would so appreciate it.
