I know there are different prices for different states. I have a PPO, unfortunately not all specialist take it. If they do- they will pay up to 80% if approved. I have absolutely no idea how much this will cost out of pocket. I live in California where it would most likely be a higher cost; I would think NY would be comparable.
Is anyone comfortable enough to give me an approximate cost?
Hi Lori
I had my angiogram and embolism at Stanford this Jan and I spent about 36 hours in the hospital. I have a PPO and if I can recall I think I am going to owe about 4,000. Also when I went the day to check in they wanted 300 but I had only brought my id and preferred for a bill anyway. So they just sent a bill. Also if you make less than I think 4300 a month you can get financial aid. The billing dept can send you all the information.
Good Luck tomorrow
Angela
Hi Lori
Looking at the one I had last May at Johns Hopkins, the total was $9,100 (inc Doctors), and that included an MRI at the same time - I was in and out the same day. I have a POS, and they paid 100% (phew!).
Have you asked the hospital to figure out an approximate cost for you?
Honestly, I've lost track of what my portion has been for my different tests & procedures after the past year. Also, since I'm a teacher, my insurance policy is from September to September & we changed our deductible amount because we knew I'd have to have Gamma Knife in December. I just know that we've paid several thousand dollars to the labs, hospitals, and doctors for an e.r. visit, CT, MRI, another e.r. visit, angiogram, GK, craniotomy, MRI, and another GK.
I just got a statement from my insurance company. Thank goodness I have insurance. Since Aug, my husband has had 2 angiograms, 2 MRI's, and a MRA, several doctors appointments and lab work total billed to insurance has been $795,000.00 so far. Luckily my insurance has paid for everything. All I have had to pay was copays for the doctor's appointment which is $35.00 a pop.
AUSTRALIA ITS FREE! I know it doesnt help your situation but it angers me the lack of available and affordable health care in America... its just rubbish! I hope you find someone who covers your costs all the best in your search xx
I have asked the Drs. assistant and I still can't get an answer as to how much this will cost out of pocket. It's driving me crazy. I have a PPO, but one Dr at UCSF is not in network so I will have to pay 30% of his fee. I think that UCSF is in network and know I will get separate bills.
I am glad that some do not have to pay for this expensive test. Just more added stress.
I had a cerebral angiogram this past December for my avm just received the bill for $20,000 my college insurance said they will not pay because I “exceeded the benefits for the particular diagnosis” which by the way up until that point I hadn’t done anything as far as treatment for the avm. I honestly don’t know how I am going to pay for it I’m a single parent full time college student. If worst comes to worst collections is what will happen.
Hi Cerebral. The first thing I would do…re-submit the claim. I re-submitted one bill for 2 years. It went down from 15,000 down to 225. I am certain you have spoken to your insurance rep. Document everything. I would talk to the billing dept. where you had the angio done. They may have some ideas. Also, you may wish to contact the insurance commissioner in your state.
So was it just the invasive angiogram test or did they fix your avm? What state to you live in?
I am so fustrated that I can't find out what this will cost me. It's a shame that our health has to come down to how much we would pay.
I was so upset with the UCSF assistant, no empathy what so ever. I had a right to ask how much it would cost. She was actually pissed that I had the nerve to ask the question! Yes, he is a wonderful doctor but I do not have movie star dollars!
