Hello,
Sadie had her craniotomy in Feb. to remove her AVM. She has done well. Still on seizure meds for seizures (but hasn't had any grand mal in a long time). We are going to an amusement park tomorrow and she wants desperately to ride the rides as she always has. Any input from those of who that have had a cranio and tried riding any rides. Her neurosurgeon says she has NO restrictions EXCEPT from contact sports.
Thanks!
Well, tough call........
You might suggest starting with the less violent rides. If she doesn't have any issues (ie headaches), let her move to the more violent rides.
I'm sure it carries some risk, but at 10, she should be able to make a few decisions relating to rides. Doesn't make the parent's job any easier. Our son had seizures in high school, but wanted to continue to play football. We reached a compromise with him. We agreed that he could play varsity football UNTIL he received a concussion. If he got a concussion, there would be no debate, he would stop playing football. He agreed to it, and was able to play four years.
Best wishes,
Ron, KS
Thanks Ron :) That's sort of how I was leaning. I just get so scared, but don't want my fears to hold her back from living :))
how did it go today?
its a touchy thing to try. i wouldnt worry so much about the avm as the seizures. all rides have warning signs on them saying, if u have seizures, do not ride the rides. i have seizures too, and they are also controlled by meds. stress triggers my seizures, complex partial, and grand mal. i wouldnt ride the crazy ones, like roller coasters, and high speed ones just in cause it triggers something, cause the last thing u want to happen is a seizure while on a ride. u just never know. better safe then sorry. everyones body reacts differenly, but best to take er easy!
Hi! We pretty much are in the same boat as you with regards to seizures. So we avoided a lot but rode a little too :) Thanks!
She had a great time! Avoided the big coasters and anything that spins too much!! Thanks!!!
