Hi Karan - I didn't have a spinal avm but had at the top of - cerebellum.

I do yoga that I adapted for the floor - this is low impact, yet should keep your father's flexibility and strength up - nothing major, but stretching first thing when he gets up should relieve some stiffness.

Also, you might want to ask your doctor for suggestions, depending on your father's abilities.

Do not do steroids, they don't help, research has proven this. The stiffness is from the nerves trying to heal. The location is C-5 and mine was C-3 thru C-6. Did he lose the use of his arm? If not, then he is very lucky. Yoga, walking, anything helps. My stiffness is gradually going away and I am 19 months post op. It could take 2 to 2 and 1/2 years. My research suggested it was Transverse Myelitis which sets in after the removal of a Spinal AVM. Go ahead and apply for Social Security Disability if it has been 5 months. At this point you are in a waiting game as nerves can take months to years to heal.

Doing Reiki or giving Reiki, individually or in a group, to the person does help…I do that often and it has benefitted me…mine was a left parietal lobe AVM.
