I have a vascular tumour in my right foot, i have had it for 15 years, and most doctors now consider amputation. A plastic surgeron wants to remove the tumour a little bit at a time but there's no guranttes and he told me that he does not know what will happen untill he starts operating on it, i will be facing ulcers, toe and part of the foot damage. so im looking for other options
I met with the radiologist last wednesday and he told me that he would discuss with my other doctors and see whether to consider sclerotherapy or not, and he gave me a call and said that sclerotherapy will not help. So i made appointments with 4 different doctors. Next week i will see 3 doctors and another in late May. Am I wasting my time and money? or should I keep seeing doctors in hope that someone will help me? It's also affecting me mentally that every doctor i see tells me there is no hope in saving the foot. So am i doing the right thing seeing all these doctors?
Aylen, none of these doctors sounds very capable, and none of them seem to be using a team approach. I suggest you post on the Australia group and ask for doctor recommendations; maybe also the Asia group. The plastic surgeon does not exactly inspire confidence...
You may also wish to friend Melissa Ayerling, Kylielonners, Anna Dru, jjnkm, Lesley, and Lilly -- all from Australia and all with leg or foot avms. They may know better doctors for you.
The fact that you have gone to all of the trouble to set up for the appointments tells me that you are not ready to give up the fight. I am sure it is incredibly hard to have to hear the news over and over, but in the end you will know that you did everything that you could. That is much better than agreeing to move forward with a drastic treatment then regretting it later. The other thing to consider is, are you seeing the right doctors? Widen your scope. Many of us have traveled thousands of miles to get to the right doctor. Check with the groups that Dancemom suggested for referrals. Maybe do some research online and see if there are any doctors in your country that have published journal articles on the treatment of peripheral AVMs. Phone all of the big medical schools and ask if they have anyone on staff that has experience, etc… It is worth the effort!
