I know that the sentiment is a little early but I wish all mothers a Happy Mother’s Day. I was reminded of this occasion for last night my daughter sent me a simple but wonderful text. Lauren is 23 and finishing her dual major of Marketing and Art Illustration. I have welcomed some members with a passion for art and shared that I have some understanding of this passion. Lauren started drawing as a child including filling sketch books with designs of shoes and clothing. Her elementary school art teachers would sometimes complain to me that she didn’t always finish her projects on time. Well, I knew that she was spending hours working on the art work exceeding the requirements of the project. So, I refused to reprimand her. At the university level, she is happiest spending many hours working on an art assignment. While I cannot relate to her enthusiasm for painting, I can appreciate her dedication to art. My father and one of my brothers had artistic talent and my husband has art talent in his family including a nephew who is a barber and does incredible designs on the scalps of some of his clients (I am grateful to FB that I can view his work.) So, last night Lauren sent me a text which said her day was made when her art professor told her she really should consider graduate school. I am a proud mother.
