Anyone have extreme pain in/around artery long term after cerebral angio?
Almost 1 year post angio, the right side of my neck is still in constant pain 24/7. I am actually being referred to pain management?! I don't know what to do next.
2 MRA's, 1 CAT, 2 dentists, 2 endodontists, & 1 oral surgeon later...ALL say can't find anything abnormal.
I'm at my wits end.
Any input greatly appreciated.
Love to all-
Elizabeth, I saw your other discussion that said you still have a fistula -- could this be causing the pains? Sometimes pain can be "referred" and felt in an area that is different from where the actual problem is. Does your neuro know about all of your current symptoms? Have you thought about seeing a second neuro?
Thank you for your consideration!
2 Neuro's at Kirklin Clinic UAB purportedly reviewed the tests and with no dissection showing in head or neck, they won't see me!! The pain started on the day of the angio. When they threaded through the left side, smooth...no discomfort...the right side however, felt like they were shoving it through and actually made me scream. Since angio, blood pressure and cholesterol have sky rocketed. They were both always normal to low.
Referred pain is something I've been looking into just this week-end. It seems right side neck referred pain is common from the upper abdominal region. Passing that by Internist today. I just obtained an Internist in Jan. who seems to be willing try.
Thank you, thank you for your thoughts and ideas!
I second what danermom said. Perhaps a second neuro would be helpful. At least your Internist seems to be taking youseriously. Let us know how it goes. I do hope you get some answers and some relief soon.
I don't know if you are able to have acupuncture, but it can be very helpful for all sorts of pain. A good acupuncturist should be able to tell you before hand whether or not it could/would help. It could take 3 - 4 sessions before you may start to feel some relief. Not only is it great for pain relief but it is very calming/relaxing. My acupuncturist also told me that they achieve great results for people who have had strokes. Again you should check with your Dr. if it is ok to do this.

Excellent suggestion, if nothing else, the calming part would be huge!
Thank you, thank you!!
Thank you so much Trish :-) missed you.
After my Angio I had very bad pain and saw a pain neuro who started me on botox shots in my head which have helped I go every three months for the last year, also ice packs
It was the worst pain.I hope you find a SOLUTION. my pain neuro said if we go too long without relief we are are at risk to be like that for the rest of our lives.
Glad to hear that yours worked. Keeps hope alive! I had my first visit to the pain neuro a few weeks ago and they referred me over for a nerve block in my neck. Ugh. Waiting on my charity care approval. Shots in your neck sound awful! I'll think about that tomorrow...haha! Thank you for your input!!
Thank you DeeDee, I will. My daughter is insisting on her chiropractor and I believe they have an acupuncture specialist on staff. I will traveling to see my angel this week-end so this avenue can be explored before the nerve block. Keeping my fingers crossed! Thank you for your input. Very much appreciated!!
Hello Elizabeth- Yes I had my angio and emboloism last Jan and have daily pain. I do see a pain neuro at Stanford and I get botox shots in my head and jaw every three months they can also do your neck and deltoids. I highly recommend it. I did not want to do it at first but when she told me if we are in constant pain this will become our new normal. It has gotten about a third better. i am not so tired now and hope in the next year or so I will continue to get better.
For me they had to do a nerve block first to see if it took which only last three weeks then they did botox - the botox takes 3 to 4 weeks to kick in
Good Luck
