Angiography

Hi everyone!! how are ye all? i have just returned home fom my 1st angio, could you tell me if i should be concerned about a small pool of blood which sits under the clear sticker type covering the area where the catheter was injected? thank. I hope everyone is coping well. Best wishes. Lynn x

I myself had a bruise the size of a saucer at the injection site. I don’t remember bleeding, but I must have bled to cause a bruise 5 inches in diameter But it was all fine. They packed it with ice and sent me on my way

Hi Nicole! Thanks for your reply! Yeah the bruise is massive aswell, I phoned the out of hours and they advised to put pressure on the area. so hopefully this will stop the bleeding! It is so hard to lie flat on my back, I worry about the house work haha I will see how it goes! The angio had complications, They couldnt get the catheter in at first! It was an unpleasant experience. Take care lv… x

Hi Lynn,

Each time I’ve had an angio there has been a small bit of blood under the clear bandage. I think that is normal, but if you notice any more blood forming than what you had when you left the hospital, you might want to either call your doctor’s office, or have someone take a look at it. That little bit that is usually pooled under the bandage is the bit left when they withdraw the catheter and put the bandage on.

Each time I am discharged from having an angio I am given written instructions of things to be on the lookout for, and bleeding is one of them. By that I believe they mean if it looks like there is active bleeding from the site where the catheter is inserted. So as long as you’re sure there isn’t any active bleeding, it’s probably okay. But if you are at all uncertain, it’s probably best to be safe and have it looked at rather than to risk unwanted bleeding.

Hope you’re feeling well after the procedure.

Hi Tori thank you so much! Yeah i understood that ther would be a little blood after the procedure. There was more blood than what was ther originally! Today i went up to the neuro surgery which is 50mins drive away… They advised that i stayed at hospital for 7 hours and rested agian! I have just returned home knowing that everything is ok for now as the bleeding has stopped and my blood is normal! Lying flat again untill the morning and hopefully everything is ok!

They had complications inserting the catheter and had to push and pull a couple of times so i think i just needed extra recovery time before being released yesterday! You take care lv. xxxx God bless x

My doctor told me not to be concerned there are people who have that all the way down their leg. When I showed him he laughed and said that’s nothing. However if you are concerned or you feel it is getting bigger don’t be afraid to go show your doctor. My first Angio I went in like 5 times lol I think he was getting sick of me. By my fifth one it becomes not so scary anymore. I hope all is well and keep smiling.
