Hi all, I'm new to the site so I hope I'm posting to the right area. Does anyone know of any good Doctors in Brisbane who deal with hand or arm AVM's as I'm finding it difficult to find any that really know what their talking about? :)
Hi, Olly, try asking this in the Australia group -- you'll get the most responses there.
Hi Aylen - I will do that :)
Hi Dancermom - thanks :)
Hello! Would you consider traveling to another country for treatment? my doctor is an interventional radiologist who has done embolizations for avms in extremities. He's the best in our country and practices in the hospital (jci-accredited) where i work, angelito tingcungco is his name.
Hi - thanks for replying. I guess at this stage I would prefer to stay within Australia. What country are you refering to?
Hi olly have you tried Dr clouston at the Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital he has been very informative
Thanks Sonia - I will look into it. Has he helped you in any way as yet?
I have not yet been treated though he has explained a lot I didnt know about my AVM he went through everything …I got a call from his secretary today letting me know that he had spoken to the eye specialist Dr Sullivan and have decided that the first treatment we spoke about (alcohol injections)could be risky and that surgery and then a smaller amount of the injections would be much safer I am glad that they can discuss the best treatment he assured me that he has had a lot of experiences with treating AVMs I meet with the eye specialist in a few weeks and will let you know how I go …I hope you find the right doctor for you don’t give up
Hi! the philippines. only if you're considering. I think an interventional radiologist could manage your case excellently as they often perform embolizations of AVMs as well as emergency embolizations of large blood vessels :)
Just found this. I live near Brisbane and am being treated at the Wesley Hospital. There is an Interventional Radiologist there. He is the only other one in Queensland. His name is Dr Duncan Walker. I have also been treated by Dr Nicholas Boyne, a vascular surgeon who has rooms in the Medical Centre there. I have multiple avms. Dr Boyne operated on my arm in 2011 and I have had no problems with it since.

Hi, I would also like feedback on doctors Brisbane/Sydney. I have two facial AVMs , one in the lip. I'm unsure whether to go ahead with intervention ( and where) , or to delay and see if it keeps getting bigger. Local plastic surgeon and vascular specialist ( not experienced in AVMs) have advised a wait and see approach, but is that likely to make it harder to resolve down the track?? Thanks
I had a bleed from a cerebral AVM in 2005. It was embolised in 2006 by Dr John Clouston who was then at the Wesley in Brisbane but has since moved to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital. I'm not sure of exactly what AVMs he treats but I consider him a miracle worker for what he did with me. I have had no problems since then.
I Agree...I have been treated by Dr John Clousten over many years for a cerebral AVM. Cannot speak highly enough of him.
Glad to hear that aussiegirl. We are lucky to have him. I have friends in Greece and have visited them a couple of times since I retired, and the subject of moving there permanently came up. But access to medical specialists of his standing is one reason I will never move permanently!
Geoff.
Any updates, Olly? Do you have a treatment plan?
