Any members ages 18-25 on here?

im 28 yrs old found out about my avm when i was 26 and now im waiting for my eeg and mri results almost 1yr post cranni yay!!!

I'm turning 25 in a couple of months. How's school? What's your major?

I'm 25 :)

I’m 26. Had my bleed when I was 25. I’m a little old but young at heart.

im 18 i was 16 when my AVM ruptured in class

Hey I'm 25 :) Mine bled last year :-/ Now the doctors are telling me I need to go to school, which in the way beginning of this I was in school to be a nurse. Now that won't happened :( What are you all going to school for, because I have no idea once my life goals were ruined.

@ Katie,

I was only 9 when mine ruptured so college was a long way down the road for me. It took me 6 years instead of 4, but I graduated in May with my Bachelors in Political Science. My stroke caused major learning disabilities in math and I'm partially paralyzed on the left side so being a doctor wasn't going to be an option. But I don't really feel like the AVM or the stroke affected my education and career choices in any great way

What do you mean partially ha my whole left side is gone. My arm and leg doesn't work and my face is droopy :-/

I can't get this to reply directly to you for some reason...I walk with a limp, have almost no use of my left hand, no peripheral vision in my left eye and my smile is sometimes crooked. It's been 16 years since this all happened it me, I didn't always have this much function

Did you get any of it partially back? Or no :( And did you go to classes or did you take them online?

I’m 22!! & I’m hopefully going to law school in a year & a half…

@ Katie,

I was 20 when I had my stroke and it was very similar to you have. I was partially paralyzed on my left side and a field cut in both of my eyes. It's been about 3 years but slowly but surely I have some feeling back, I have some basic movements. I still cant move my fingers at all but the drs said that the fingers are the last to get back. Physical therapy helps somewhat. I know what you're going through. Sometimes I wished that I could chop my damn arm off and be done with it. Don't give up hope. It WILL return, its blood sweat and tears to get it back.

I'm not sure what you mean? Have I regained function in recent years, or do you mean as a whole since the stroke? Compared to where I was immediately following the stroke, I've regained a huge amount of function. But the vision loss was 100% permanent and I never fully regained fine motor skills in my left hand or foot (although I can grip some things in my hand once I put them there). At 16 years post stroke there's probably not much more I can get back unless they make some major scientific breakthroughs. But I can walk, drive, cook, live on my own, etc, so I count myself pretty fortunate.

hi all, unfortunately im an "oldie" now (im 35), but i had my first bleed at 17 - second when i was 18. Lost the power of speech, had to re-start from scratch.

At that time, the internet had only just started up really. There was no group for me, no AVM survivors, etc. So certainly, theres a lot more support these days for u guys/gals.

had my AVM when I was 20 though, & I was paralyzed on my left side too. I still have a limp on my left side & some memory problems, but I’m hoping that’ll be better soon too…
