Anybody else experiencing pain in their scar 1 year after surgery?

hi i'm hoping to get some advice....

my AVM was removed surgically folllowing it being embolised over one year ago, in february 2011. recently i have noticed that a lumpy part of my scar is quite tender and sore, and i am unable to lie on it to sleep at night. anybody else had this? is it something that they can fix or even bother fixing? :(

Hi Claire, each of us has differing reactions. because i had two lots of surgery, for example, there are some parts of my scalp where there are no feelings cos the nerve endings were damaged due to the incisions. other parts of my scar tend to be a little tender after getting haircuts etc. have you been for your annual checkup with your neuro yet, or is that coming up soon? it wouldn't be out of place to ask around in our aussie/NZ group too - others may have experienced your deficits too. Good luck

Hi Claire,
I've had four surgeries & my surgery site from 3 yrs ago has improved in sensitivity, whereas my incision from surgery 2 yrs. ago is still quite sensitive.
As Tony mentioned, everyone is different. Have you had a recent follow-up w/ your neuro?
Best wishes.

Claire...It's been 4 1/2 years since my cran and if I sleep on the side where they had the surgery, I wake up with pain....It goes away very quickly tho.

Hi Claire. I did a search on here for you…

Hello Claire, as Tony said, we all have different reactions to our surgeries. I had 2 surgeries as well and the main scar from the crainiotomy can still be rather tender at different times & that is 2yrs & 10mths ago!
Personally, I think it would be a good idea to contact your neurologist if your annual check-up has been done or isn't due for a while, just to give you some peace of mind. Take care & please let us know how it goes.
