AVM and Oral Surgery

Has anyone had any experience with having an AVM and Oral surgery? I need some things to my teeth actually a lot but my primary Dr. Isn’t really ok with sedation dentistry. Thank you in advance.

Hi and welcome! I read your story and sounds like you have had an interesting time with the medical world, specially the first diagnosis. We have a wide range of folks and experiences here, but I don;t remember any threads similar to what you ask. I can’t comment on the relation between your AVM and dental surgery but I would certainly seek another opinion. It doesn’t add up to me but I am by no means a Dr. Take Care, John.

Hi Dana!

I’m Peggy. I have an AVM in my cerebellum and have had two bleeds and treatment, radiation with Cyber (Gamma) Knife, and just this past December had an embolization. I’ve had a root canal and an implant after all this as well as several crowns. Both doctors just wanted to consult with my neurosurgeon before surgery. I don’t know your specifics, but usually oral surgeons just use a local with some sedation. For my root canal, I don’t think there was any sedation but for my implant both appointments used sedation. For the first, I was out. For the second, I was awake but goofy.

Thank you so much for your response. I’m having a hard time getting doctors to sign off and I basically need most teeth pulled and don’t want to be awake.
