Hi everyone,
I want to let everyone know about my book which just released on August 25, 2010. My book is called ‘Struggle to the Summit’. It’s all about the events leading up to my brain surgery, my surgery, my 4 month stay in rehab, coming home completely disabled, running my household with full time help… and finally working my way back to being functional again. I still have numerous deficits today, but I’m doing very well considering what I went through.
My book is written in a very positive, upbeat way, and will inspire all those who read it.
You can review the book at amazon through the following link.

I wish you all well.
Feedback is welcome,
Best wishes,
Rivky

Avery caring long time friend turned me on reading ‘My stroke of Insight’ by Jill Bolte Taylor, very amasing, inspiring true story. For me it’s hard to read, but once I got started, couldn’t put it down.

Goodreading you all!

There is an award winning documentary about a musician, father, and member here, Jason Crigler, who had an AVM bleed and after years of rehabilitation played the guitar on stage again.

An oldie but a goodie for me will always be, “A Bomb in the Brain,” by Steve Fishman.

Gerardo, “My stroke of insight” was also given to me by someone that has had two family members go through brain truma (Tumor and stroke).
The Author Jill Bolte Taylor is also a brain scientist (before and after her event) that took advantage of her journey to learn and write this book. She went into great detail with her AVM Hemorrhage/Stroke, 8 year recovery, and she explains how the brain heals it self. She actually was able to reprogram her brain the way she preferred it leaving out bad feelings etc. I’m not much of a reader but like you said once you pick it up you cant put it down. Highly recommended. Here she is check it out.

I really liked this book! It made me cry. I went through a lot of the same things that Jill went through, even though mine was on the right side. I really enjoyed going to her website &and hearing the brain jingle! She was lucky that she had the support that she did. Many of us don’t have that kind of support! Family support is the most important support of all. I don’t have that support. It’s kind of like “Oh, well. You’re not having anything wrong. You’re lying, just to get attention”! Just because I am not twitching (chorea) or having any of my original symptoms doesn’t mean that I’m not having a bleed. (Right now, I’m having a “pity party” with myself. (my late husband’s phrase, but he knew when I was having symptoms!) Anyway, thew book helped me with this feeling! I have been very emotional lately, after hitting my head on a brick wall due to my nephew, who was withdrawing from drugs. He assaulted me & my family doesn’t think it’s anything. Also, my neurologist doesn’t want to see me, because I was let out of the hospital & wasn’t diagnosed with a concussion.

Another AVM book: "Courage to Persevere" by Bill Fallon. He went back to skiing after his trauma.

Also, according to Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor's website, a film is in the works from her book/experience. With Ron Howard directing and possibly Jodie Foster playing Dr. Taylor. Can't wait!
