Hi everyone,
I wanted to share the story of my husband's AVM recovery.
He was diagnosed to an AVM in his left occipital lobe in November 2011. The symptoms were a bad headache and vision loss, there was no bleed. He underwent a gamma knife surgery in January 2012 in Swedish Hospital in Seattle. His neurosurgeon was Dr. David Newell.
We had several follow-up MRIs and the AVM continued to reduce in size each time. There was swelling in the brain about 15 months after gamma knife and he was on steroids for a month. He also experienced several episodes of partial vision loss accompanied by mild to severe headaches.
After two years, we are thrilled that he is AVM free. The angiogram looks like the AVM was never there!
Dr. Newell was an awesome neurosurgeon and we had a great experience at Swedish in Seattle.
Please feel free to get in touch with me if you have questions. I wish you all the best as you get through your AVM; I know what a nightmare it can be.
Thanks.
