So I'm in a medical terminology class at the moment (going to school to be a medical assistant), and our instructor told us to pick a rare condition to do a report on for the end of the term. Of course, being an AVM survivor myself, that was the first thing that popped in my head (a report on AVM's), and my instructor is super excited to hear about it.
She would like us to do a visual to go along with our reports. I know a lot of you are some very creative people, so if you can give me any ideas or input please post them my way. My AVM was in my brain, so I was thinking of somehow showing what happens when an AVM bursts in the brain or something. She mentioned she's had students do anything from clay figures, to cakes, and so on. I know I for sure am going to bring the CD of my CT/MRI in to show the class, but I want something physical that she can keep (and hopefully use as an example for her next class)! Thanks in advance!!
I just had craniotomy friday to removed a very rare acctive cavernous malforating. I have a nice scar to show fur it. haha I would be glad to help you in anyway I know you asked about AVM, but if you dont find what you are looking for, i'l be happy to help.

Hi Toni...nice chance for u to show the fellow beings about what an AVM survivor goes thru...
i noticed the flavor of ur post focused on the physical scars of the avm episode in the survivors life....however along with that physical scar..i would suggest if u can pool in ur friends n well wishers.....n stage a small drama or skit .... SCENE must be something like this....
The AVM survivor was an above average human being n had a normal impressive I.Q....but after the bleed LIFE changes instantly.... how friends disappear...how unable to match with the speeds of a common man..how u cannot multi-task in thinking.... how it affects ur self-confidence..as a result how long will be the phase of depression n tears....as a result personality changes in the AVM survivor to stop proving himself to the common man again n again....
do u get the mood of the scene.. ?? :) i dont think the scene requires more than 4-5 mins of performance... n may be 1-2 days of rehearsals.. :)
I have a suggestion - and its only a suggestion. Film a meet up of a mixed group of survivors: (a)recently diagnosed, (b)in the middle of their treatment journey, and (c)obliterated.
There's one such event coming to your neighbourhood very soon. Check out the event on the 25th: Mimi's Cafe South Harbor Boulevard Anaheim California
Obviously you would have to seek the approval of those individuals who's snippets don't end up on the cutting-room floor. It would be a great way to promote Awareness, and demonstrate the resilience, in general, of so many people who have rare conditions.
It will give you the op to show that this doesn't have to be about 'doom n gloom'. Hey! What am I going on about! You've been there, and shown us your strength, my friend!
