Can Actually hear popping from my head!

I was wondering if there was anyone else out there than can actually hear popping from their heads. It sounds like rice crispy’s once you poor the milk on them. (The cereal) It even wakes my husband up a lot in the mornings! It is so strange and didnt start happening til about 7 months ago. The doctors didnt really explain it to me well at all. And just told me it was the blood vessels on my scalp expanding and contracting and the blood flowing through was what was causing the popping-weird noises. And now that I am pregnant it is happening more often.
I just wanted to know if anyone else has ever noticed a quiet popping noise coming from their head and if so if you have discussed it with your doctor? What did they say? I just kind of feel like my doctor had no idea what he was talking about and since it is happening more often I was just a little worried. When it does happen my headache doesn’t get any worse and I have no other symptoms besides the noises. IF anyone has any thoughts I would appreciate it. From talking to the doctors there is nothing to worry about. And I was just wondering if anyone else has ever had the happen.
It seems to happen at least 5 times a week and mostly in the morning while I am lying down sleeping. Thanks for you help.

Chari’s AVM create what they called a “bruit” if I recall the name correctly. We couldn’t hear it without a stethescope, but several DRs let us listen to it. What is was was the sound of blood flowing through the AVM. Her’s sounded a lot like if you put your ear on someone’s chest and heart their heart beat.

THEN, after the embolizations significantly reduced the size of the AVM, the bruit disappeared! It really bothered Chari–she couldn’t fall asleep as easily–all her life, she had heard that noise in her head every night–and now it was GONE!!!

It took her awhile to get used to NOT hearing it.

Doubt you need to worry about yours.

Never had anything like that, I have heard others talk about a brute, but even your husband wakes with it is weird. Think i’d ask again Brittany. Does your baby doc know your history?

hi brittany,
when i had my avm i used to hear a swishing noise in the right side of my head… like a washing machine…it got worse when i would lay down…or get drunk…for many years i just thought everyone heard that noise in there head…but since it has been removed i have never heard it again… i agree with amanda …you need to get it checked out again…especcially now you are pregnant…when prgnant your blood volume changes dramatically…have you had your blood pressure checked lately?..please let us know what the doc says

Hi Brittany, I have an AVM in the back of my head and I hear sound sometimes. I heard it before I knew I had an AVM. I have been asking people for years if they could hear something moving in their head. Everyone said no. Now that I know I have an AVM and I’m a member of this support
group, I realize that it is normal for someone with an AVM to hear sound in their head or ear.

Peace,
Ameenah

Something I forgot to say was that my avm has been gone since October 31st 2007…and the noise is coming from outside of my skull. I can put my hand on the area where I feel the noises coming so it isn’t on the inside. I am going to get ahold of my obgyn and my neurologist and discuss this with them. thanks for your help.

Brittany have you contacted your neuro-surgeon yet ? Has the neuro checked you recently including the physical feeling of your skull with his/her hands ? Is your blood pressure being monitored ? Have you had a sinus infection this past year ?

I have not been to my neurologist since December and at the time we didnt know that I was pregnant. I can’t get in to see him again til the middle of march. I check my blood pressure several times a week because high blood pressure does run in my family. And I have not had a sinus infection for a couple years. I do however have a lot of drainage coming out of my nose and have had that for about 2 months. My nose is always runny…and I am sneezing a lot so maybe it could be allergies?

I have always had popping from my ears. When I am getting an ear infection surprisingly more often than not. I get the popping in my ears. It seems like it is coming from my head but it is my ears.

yeah…at first I thought maybe it was my ears but after a while i started to feel around on my head I could actually feel the area that was making the popping nose move. So i’m 99% sure it isn’t coming from my ears since I feel movement on my scalp.

yes it may be coming from your nose
