Cerebral palsy

Has anyone been diagnosed with this after a bleed? My baby was diagnosed today with mild cerebral palsy . I know when he had his bleed he did have left sided weakness but with physio he seems to have over come it , ( so the physio said!) today he had a full medical check and he paed said she was diagnosing him with the condition as he had a exagerated left reflex in his leg!??? anyone else dealing with this?

Hi HCH,

I think CP can be diagnosed any time in the first few years of life, and it can come about after a bleed. Here's the National Institutes of Health page on CP: Cerebral Palsy.

But I think it takes more than one symptom to get to a diagnosis, so it's possible that the doctor has it wrong. Check out this site, for how a diagnosis should work: Tests for Cerebral Palsy

If the signs are ambiguous, it's possible that a CP diagnosis will open doors to extra care and support for your baby. It's a better-known condition, and it might give him access to more treatment.

Either way, will he be able to have more physio, to see if the reflex can be brought under his control?

Is it possible to get a second opinion to confirm the diagnosis? I will continue to pray for him!

He has an appointment with his neuro consultant on saturday , im going to ask then. I havent even noticed this reflex , to me he just looks like any other baby boy! i suppose i best start mentally preparing myself for things like this :( yesterday i was not expecting her to say anything else was wrong . x

Hi HCH. Please do what is best for your child. The so-called experts told my parents almost 24 and half years ago that the best that they could hope for was that I would walk with a cane and a brace. I had other ideas. I made a full recovery.
Keep us posted and I will continue to send positive thoughts and prayers your way!

well i would like ro report after a 2nd opinion my baby is healthy and as of today officially AVM free! :D i cannot tell you how fab i feel right now! xxx

Super Hurrah! Congratulations!!!
