Chinese Alternative medicine & Accupuncture,

Hi All i recently Had a Craniotomy after a mjor bleed.

Once i woke up and came home. I was paralysed on the left side of my body and had a great deal of numbness and pins and needles in around my left hand and feet and leg.
I also could not talk due as my voice box was damaged.

I seeked help from a Chinese herbal doctor who specialised in Accupuncture and herbal medicine. I had seen him work wonders before.

I explained to him and showed him what and AVM was and what i had been through.

He explained that the cause of numbness and pins and needles was that blood was not flowing as it should be in this area poor blood circulation due to the bleed and possible Nerve damage in the brain. He also told me massaging these areas would cause further damage to the nerves I was also told this by my physio team.

So the Chinese doctor told me he would not put any needles on my head near my AVM but only my hands, arms and legs. this would stimulate the nerves to increase blood flow after a few sessions i was not feeling any pain and the numbness had now gone. I was also given herbal pills to take called compound dashen dripping, which are natural pills, size of very tiny seeds and help circulate blood around the body.

This all helped me as my consultant had told me I have Nerve damage in my head and would feel numbness for many years. and it is now gone.

I also had accupuncture done around my throat to relieve the soreness and was given a dry chinese fruit called Lychonophorae, this was to be boiled in water and then the drained out and the juice which is drained to be drank once it became cooler. this is widely used in China for singers who strain their vocal chords. I had this for 3 weeks and my voice was back. and 3 sessions of acupuncture on the throat. But I was told it was the fruit which helped me get my voice back.

The Chinese doctor also told me to stay positive and belive as it was all herbal. I gave it a shot and i have always believed in alternative medicine and Its all working.

Also if any of you are interested in this, please see a chinese doctor before taking ay medications, as they will tell you what is best for your condition and accupuncture should only be done by someone who knows what they are doing.

If any one knows someone with memory problems or Dementia or Alzheimers Disease then their are tablets ot Viles(Syrup) available from Chinese doctors called Ginko Biloba. These are proven to help strengthen the memory and regain it in some instances. My grandma suffered from Alzheimers and taking this everyaday helped her memory comeback, but only take this once consulting your docotor and a Chinese doctor as everyones medical circumstances are different also Ginko Biloba should not be taken with blood thinners such as Asprin

HELLO DIPEN,
tHANK YOU FOR YOUR PERSONEL HEALTH INFO. i KNOW WITHOUT ANY DOUTH, ACUPUNGTER IS VERY HELPFUL. mY WIFE, 30 YRS. AGO WENT TO MANY DOCTORS, SOME ‘SPECIALIST’ THEY COULD NOT DO A DAMM THING TO CURE HER, THE LAST TOLD US SHE WOULD HAVE ONLY 4-6 MOS, TO BE NORMAL, WOULD LOSE PHY. USE OF BODY, DUE TO MS. AFTER THAT STATEMENT, WE LOOKED AT EACH OTHER, AND WALKED RIGHT OUT OF THAT ’ PROFESSIOAL’
OFC. SHE IS WELL CAUSE OF THE KNOWLEGDE AND CARING NATURAL HERBIST AND CHIROPRACTOR (ACUPUCTURE). AS FOR ME, AFTER AN ANURSYM, GINKO BILOBA HELPED ME REMEMBER MY KIDS NAMES. YOU HIT THE NAIL RIGHT ON IT’S HEAD, RIGHT ON!

great info. I have also used acupuncture a few times. It did wonders for my sleep issues and increased the cirulation in my legs. good to find someone certified and experienced. I always wondered about the chinese herbs (never tried them). It really does work for many people, and insurance is beginning to cover it. Mine covers it, but covers no one that does in my state (yet). Some doctors also do accupuncture now too. I’ve done chi gong, tai chi and lots of yoga (DVDs by Gaiam line are always good). chi gong and tai chi are for almost anyone but yoga it’s best to find a certified trainer since it can cause injury if you have any balance or health issues. Go go youtube.com, type in ‘chi gong’, ‘qigong’, ‘tai chi’ to get an idea. tai chi is seen at a lot of senior centers since it’s easy, helps with balance, stretching and basic strenthening. Gently massaging my sinuses, forehead, and back of the head helps me to stop a migraine coming as the increased circulation to the head seems to help stop a migraine if it hasn’t fully started. And it just feels fabulous. Anyone else have luck with natural/alternative therapies? it’d be great to get some good ideas…

Hi Dipen

Thank you for sharing your experience. I also had an AVM and am going through a series of acupuncture sessions and am find that my tone (spasticity) has greatly improved, allowing my hand to be more functional. I'm amazing that acupuncture can be so pin-pointed, without the side-effects that a drug might have. I also have had a similar experience with increased my blood circulation and this being the cause of my numb sensation (in my fingers).

Best of luck!
Steph
