Hi! I know that there have been some old discussions about this topic, but I wanted to see if anyone knows of any college scholarships for AVM survivors. I am a high school senior and have gotten into many schools, but my main problem is not being able to find the money to go to the ones I want to attend. Does anyone know of any specific scholarships for people who have gone through an AVM?
Hi Catherine,
Not aware of any scholarships, but if you have any deficits at all, whichever college you go to go to the Students with Disabilities office. My son went to Kansas University and was having non-avm related seizures. He walked into the disability office to see if they had any special services that might help him, and he wanted a "get out of jail free card" if he had a seizure during a test.
When he walked out of the office, he had a tutor for each class, permission for extra time to take tests, the "free pass" to retake tests if he had a seizure before or during a test, a note taker for each class he wanted one in. The helpers were all majors in the classes he needed help in, so they knew their stuff. Oh, best of all, the cost was FREE.
I'm guessing any sized college would have similar results.
Best wishes,
Ron, KS
Forgot to add: They even offered to find him a job or let him work out of their office if he needed work to fund college.
