Coming off dilantin

I go in 2 weeks to neuro doc to discuss reducing my dilantin dosage - currently 400 mg for the last year. Any feedback on doing this I’ve never had seizures and don’t want them to start now.

I’m very similar in that I was at almost a year without seizures. I was weaning off Keppra very slowly (three months), and finally finished a few days ago. Then Bam, my first seizure. I’m back on Keppra, with likely no driving for six months (see the doc on Tuesday). I probably would have done the same thing again, but wanted you going in with eyes open. Best of luck!

I’d almost rather take meds than have seizures. What is that like?

It knocked me unconscious and felt like I had been through a ten round heavyweight fight.

If there are adverse side effects that you’re experiencing with Dilantin (I’ve never taken it), it may be worth it. My intent was simply to make you aware. I didn’t think I was at risk, never having a seizure before. I found out the hard way it was.
