Exercise and My Consultancy Appointment

Hey guys!

So today I meet with my consultant and can ask all of the questions I’ve been recording down and HOPEFULLY get some answers - I will HOPEFULLY hear more about my treatment today, too.

In the mean time, I was just wondering how/if any of you guys exercise, and what exercise you do? I know all our cases are different as are our abilities because of us all being at different stages but I am just curious. I am post-bleed but still pre-op, I am barely sleeping due to the medication I am on for my AVM so get tired very quickly, I get numbness in my left side that comes and goes and I’m not too good on my legs or getting up and down stairs and if I get too low to the ground I can’t get back up… But I suffer with anorexia nervosa too, and this is my concern as exercising and keeping thin is a massive need in my life due to this and I feel as if I’m laying here getting bigger and bigger and it’s bringing me so much stress and upset. I lost weight in hospital but have put on since leaving and I feel absolutely dreadful. I’m unsure if any one else on here suffered with an ED and can help, or if anyone can just give me some advice on exercising/minimising weight gain whilst I am this inactive.

Thank you so much for all your constant support on here guys, you have all been SO great so far and I’m really happy I found this forum, it’s made this past week a lot easier for me.

Stay strong!

Love Gemma x

Good luck with your appointment and I hope you get some positive answers. Exercise helps to keep a healthy mind and body and can reduce stress however you need to listen to your body and take it easy and take little steps to begin with such as short walks ext or a relaxing swim. If its to much your body will let you know… Take care

Thank you! I’ll post an update later once I’ve been to my appointment to let you all know what progress is happening (if any!) as for the advice, thank you. My boyfriend suggested swimming as its low impact and may even help my situation of left side weakness so ill take baby steps and see how I manage!

Good luck and let me know what exercises to do

Gemma, being underweight may make it harder to heal after a brain bleed, if the body is not properly nourished. If you can possibly see a nutritionist, I would recommend it. It is possible that your eating disorder may be AVM-related, as AVMs can cause a variety of anxiety disorders.

Hi Gemma,

I would suggest trying Yoga. That's an exercise that is easy to adjust and alter to what you are able to do. And...you don't have to go any where to do it (smiles). You can eliminate the things you can't do or are not good for you to do.
