From embolization to Kilimanjaro

Short story version: Brain bleed in May 2022. Diagnosis of AVM/AVF in July 2022 followed by embolization in Sep 2022. Until that point, I’d never heard of an AVM. But needed to learn much and quickly. One of the biggest learnings was how to exhibit patience between medical appointments and procedures. All went well and in August of 2023, my wife and I summited Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. My story is on Medium in more detail and I pray it brings hope to others.

You and your wife are a legend!
I’m a lurker here but this got me out of my hole!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your blog and got me so inspired! I’m not the AVM survivor but my husband is. He loves to do things but we weren’t sure whether he could be as active as he was pre-AVM. It’s been 4 years now and he still gets to do the things he loves like snowboarding and he even took up spear fishing.

Your story and my husband’s is a good reminder that healing is possible and as you quoted in one of your entry’s “We are back, and we are here. We are not going anywhere…We will rebuild here.”

Thank you for sharing your story!
All the best with your healing.
