Grandma's AVM

Hello all!

I wrote to you all before about my 68 year old grandma having an AVM and me going home from college every weekend to visit her. Little review....Her AVM ruptured about 3 months ago. We had no idea if she would survive, but she did. She was on a breathing machine for a while but eventually she could breathe on her own and had a trache put in. She had surgery about a month ago. Now, they moved her to a nursing home where she will be watched. We are waiting for her to wake up and get strong so she can go through rehab and practice speaking and walking again but she will not wake up much. Most days she just lays there asleep or very weak.

At the hospital, my grandma interracted with us much more than she does not at the nursing home. She has a feeding tube in and has not eaten in about 3 and a half months. Nor has she walked or sat up. I am afraid she will never walk again but I am aware each person is different. Doctors won't tell us much. Anyone know if this is just the aftermath of her surgery or if it just takes a while to recover? Any similar stories or insight would be extremely helpful. Thank you.

Hi Hopeful & thanks for your update on your Grandma.
Your Grandma is a survivor & she has a loving & concerned family on her side.
You & your family deserve answers from her healthcare team & would encourage you request a meeting with her drs. & caregivers so you & your family can discuss concerns & pose questions.
Does she have a physiatrist (a neuro rehab specialist) overlooking her care?
Best wishes for you & your Grandma!
Take care.

Hello my grandma is in the same situation right now. Hers just ruptured and bled into her brain stem three days ago. I am waiting patiently to see what happens. I am extremely worried she is the closest person to me. Where did the bleed happen in your grandmothers brain if you don't mind me asking?

Btw, god bless and I will send prayers your way. I hope your grandmother improves!

Thank you. I am happy your grandma survived! Just parying still.

She has a few nurses looking over her at the nursing home but they do not know much about her. She also has a therapist as well I believe. We are trying to schedule an appointment to talk to her doctor but he hasn't been telling us much.I just hope we get answers soon.

I do not remember where hers bled. I will pray for you because when this happened to my grandma, it was one of the hardest times of my life. She is extremely close to me and my family. We always have a person there with her. Its been that way for 3 and a half months. Just keep hope because the doctors told us they didnt know what would happen but people can be very resilient and strong. Stay by her side, hold her hand, and let her know you and your family are there for her. I will keep your grandma in my prayers and hope for the best! Keep us updated! :)
