We were given great news on Wednesday while I was in for my 3rd GK treatment. After the MRI, my neurosurgeon came by & told us that he could already see a dramatic change in my AVM from my GK treatments in June 2011 & December 2011.
They showed the scans from last June & December to my husband while I was in the GK machine, and they showed them to me after I had my treatment & had the halo removed. Even I could see the difference in the scans from this week and from a year ago. I go back for an MRI in a year, and an angiogram in 2 years. Then, we'll see how the AVM looks & if anything further needs to be done.
They targeted 2 areas this time--one for 60 minutes; the other for 40 minutes.
I'm having more trouble recovering from this one, though. I was having migraines in the days before this GK, and have had headaches ever since. (Felt fine the morning of GK). It was bad enough yesterday, that my husband called the neurosurgeon's office & one of his residents told him to take me on in to the e.r. There didn't seem to be any neurological issues, and hydrocodone was taking the edge off the pain, so they sent me home with more pain meds & orders to take them every 4 hours for the next 2-3 days.
My mom drove down last weekend so she'd be here for the GK. She was planning to go back home today, but she's decided to wait a couple of days & make sure I'm back on my feet again. We are quite a pair. She managed to put her hand in the ceiling fan & banged up a couple of her fingers the other night, so I'm taking care of her fingers--cleaned it up for her & putting on her bandaids, and she fusses at me when I want to heat my own leftovers, she makes me pitchers of iced tea, and she cleans my kitchen.
