Hey Everyone
I know that most of us have suffered or continue to suffer from horrible headaches almost daily.
I tried everything to get rid of them. After brain surgery, I had blood in my ventricles. The doctors tried quite a few meds, one being tylenol # 3 and that was a joke (made me loopy anyhow), and percocet. The percocet worked after days of excruciating pain, but only took the edge off. When I got home, and the days turned into weeks, I still had horrible headaches, that would keep the average person, close to the toilet, but I had stuff to do, and “got used to it”, some asked me how I could get used to it? It’s strange, but you just do. Perhaps I thought, this was the way it was going to be.
One thing I soon realized after the surgery was that I had new tastes in food, and one of those was spicy whole jalapeno peppers (makes my mouth water sitting here). I craved them like a pregnant woman…I also like pancakes, and always hated them. Time went on, and I realized something. I craved the peppers more often than not when I had a wicked headache. For some reason, my body craved them. When I would eat them, I don’t know if my brain told my mouth…“your mouth is burning off you fool…stop eating these!!!” OR there is actually a reason my headaches would ease up…I still continue to eat them, keep a jar handy, and most often crave them "when I have a headache."
For a minor headache…I’ve also found that a good mint tea (from the health food store) works well to.
Good Luck…I hope that it may work for some of you. Let me know? Hugs!
Hi Kerry,
I’ll remember both of these. Thanks.
Take care,
Debbie
I use essenstial oils…found one called gray matter batter…i rub it on my temples and the peppermint in it cools it… I too like more natural remedies… mare
That’s interesting. Mint and peppers both have a burning sensation of sorts. There must be something in each of them that helps. I’ll have to research this to see what the commonality is. Thanks for the tip!
I am a nurse and taking a course on holistic medicine… believ this stuff was out there before drugs lol anyway Lavendar is so sosthing…I also buy a mist and spray it on my pillow at night and keep a bottle of lavendar lotion in m purse, car, as it calms… peppermint is also good…there is a company called Young Living oils and have a combition which is called M-grain… a dab on the temples and it helps… again, it helps me and hope it can relieve some pain… but love the lavendar to relax… Mare
Hi Kerry:
It was interesting to read your post about having the craving for hot peppers when you had the episode headache, and how the mint tea seems to help you.
I have been aware of my dura aterio venous fistula for about 5 years. So far I have had three embolizations and will be going in for the gamma knife the 29th June. I have nearly continious headaches with some hitting 10 or more. When they hit that level I have to resort to the oxycodone, otherwise Tylenol helps. Nothing I take makes them go away. Now I am going to try the mint tea and try the peppers to see if that works for me.
I really like this boars since we are all in the same boat, and exchangi ng ideas is a grat benefit.
