Helicoptor rides

My family and I are going to Panama city beach next month. I want to take a helicopter ride along the coastline. Does anyone know if this is ok? Probably will ask my doctor just in case, but I took one in the mountains a little over 13 years ago and had no problem. Of course I didn’t know I had an AVM at the time. It is still active. Never been in a plane. I know they fly way higher than helicopters do.

Hi Melissa! :-)

I have flown on both helicopters and airplanes quite frequently in my life and quite a few times since I've been diagnosed with an AVM. Now, of course I'm a little more aware and I watch for signs that something may be going wrong and I make sure I get adequate rest the night before. Ironically, I've never even had one of my episodes while in flight (thank God). I'm not sure of your AVM's location and size and if any of that has anything to do with risk factors associated with travel but I do believe it is worth a try to have a conversation with your doctor.

FYI: Right before diagnosis, I took a helicopter tour of the Las Vegas strip and I had no issues at all!

Good luck to you! :-)

I dont think the helicopter will be an issue but if you are flying in a plane make sure to wear compression socks.
When I fly I tend to fall asleep during take of and get a head ache during descent
Good luck and hope you have a great time
