Is it possible for memory problems to get worse?

My surgery/bleed caused me a ‘minor’ short term memory problem, it’s been nearly 2 1/2 years since it happened, but lately I’ve noticed it’s been getting worse, and it’s starting to worry me. It’s hard to explain, it’s not the same as just going through ‘a bad day’… I don’t know. But is this even possible, for it to get worse? (and after this long?)

Chris,
I was curious do you have seizures since your surgery? If so I believe they have a “huge” impact on the short term memory. I know the longer my husband goes between his GM seizures after his surgery the better his short term memory is, but as soon as he has one of those wicked seizurs he takes a small step backwards in the memory area.

I have short term memory loss also. Sometimes it is worse than others. Blonde moments if you will. Some days I cant even remember my favorite country music singers name. It is very frustrating.my stroke was 6 years ago though if that helps.

Sorry for the late reply… But no, I haven’t been experiencing seizures since my surgery.

Thanks for the replies. I honestly just think it’s stress and tiredness, lately I have been…

I’m sure that has a lot to do with it as well. This is a good time of year to be stressed with the holidays, etc coming up. Are you on any anti seizure med? Since I see your AVM/surgery is the left temporal lobe as my husbands, he has had some seizures and is currently on seizure med. Have you ever been on seizure med? Are you now? If so what kind and how much?
You are lucky if not on med and do not deal with seizures!!!
Have a great day! and take care of you!

It has been 16 years since my accident. My memory isn’t much better than it was in '93, but I have learned quite a few tricks and ‘aids’ that make it seem much better. Basically, I overcompensate. And then is surprises someone when I don’t remember something…! And then I hear, “Did you write it down?”

Sounds kinda ‘sad’ when I re-read what I wrote, but it’s true.
