Is the angiogram result good

I had my cerebral angiogram surgery Wednesday last week, this is the findings. Does it sound good or not? Impression
Persistence of previously treated right occipital arteriovenous malformation with feeders through right posterior cerebral artery and drainage into ectatic venous drainage into superior sagittal sinus with less conspicuous early venous drainage, consistent with treatment response.

To translate it into English…

  • It’s “persisting”, so it’s still there.
  • There’s “less conspicuous” early venous drainage, so at least some of it looks smaller, probably the part that we’d hope to be smaller.

That’s about it.

If this emanates from the radiotherapy that you had in late Oct 2024, that’s just over 1½ years ago. I think it’s possible that AVMs vanish in this time frame but I think it’s less often: I think needing to wait a bit longer is more typical. So while it’s disappointing for it still to be there, it doesn’t seem to me to be without good hope for a future date.

Hope all of that helps.

Thank you so much for responding to me, that made me feel better, more hopeful I just want it to be gone this time because this is twice it came back a little bit over to the right and on the PCA so my doctor said it was worse. .i hope all is well with you now?

So the doc said this report showed it was worse? I guess that’s the “ectatic venous drainage”.

It doesn’t say in the words you provided whether that ectasia was worsening or the same as previously. If the doctor is saying it is worse than previously, then that ectasia may be the point.

I am all good, thank you. I’m in my sixties, so everything else is slowly starting to fall apart!

I feel you on that, I’m late 50’s. I’m blessed to be alive after all this and my fall with 3 brain bleeds May 2, 2025. Grandchildren really do make life grand!!!

AVM still there, but it sounds like less shunting of blood through it now. That is a good thing, they said this shows positive response to treatment. I assume you had radiation or you are getting staged embolizations?

Is this the second time you’ve had Gamma Knife treatment, or did you undergo a closely spaced staged treatment?

From the description you sent, it seems that the nidus is smaller or that the blood flow is slower. Either way, that’s good news!

The malformation hasn’t completely obliterated yet, but it is shrinking. How long after the Gamma Knife treatment was this MRI done?
