Hi everyone i currently have a lumbar drain in. And tommorow morning they are clamping it to see if i will be okay without it, god i hope it will be okay because if i cant cope with it clamped for a long time then im going to need a shunt, which is once more going to pro long my hospital stay, well as long as they put the shunt in very soon after it will be okay. Because my body really does recover at a remarkable rate which will hoopefully mean i will be home very soon after shunt insertion which is what i want so damn bad. Im asking if anyone else has had a lumbar drain and if so, was you able to cope for a long period with it clamped? And if not and you had to have a shunt inserted how soon after the clamping did they perform the procedure? Obviously i know it might not be the same for me, im meerly curious.
Sorry u are going through this. My brother had an external shunt in the brain but ended up witha permanent shunt because of csf. i i know its not the same, but he did recover well from it…hope u will too, if you end needing it.
Hi Kyle,
My partner had a drain in his head but the procedure was really similar to what you are describing.
They clamped him and I think 1-2 days after they removed the drain since he was coping very well.
Hopefully, the same will happen to you but if the shunt is the best solution, I am sure it will go equally well.
Good luck and keep us posted!

an update here guys still no headaches.. butone ittle drop of csf fluid came out f my back...what dooes that mean, is it a sign that points me in the direction of having a shunt? i showed the dotor on the ward at the time and she said tto lay on my bed so we can see if m bed or my hospital pyjama top gets wet. go damn it was doing so well! she also aid it could be gravity because i have bee walking/ snooping around the ward for a while, it actually happened a i was speaking to her over the nurse station desk
I'm praying that you can go home very soon!
