Just got my results back. Waiting for my neurologist to call me today. Can someone explain what this means, because I’m really concerned.
Which bit are you bothered about? So far as I know, “gliosis” is effectively scarring – an immune response to radiotherapy or surgery etc.
Just got me confused and concerned about the Gliosis. Reading on it and it says that it shortens a person’s life span to only a matter of a few years before it becomes fatal
I know one other person here who talked about gliosis (possibly privately with me). I’d say don’t panic but get the advice of the neuro as to what it appears to mean to you. And do let us know what they say!
I can’t decide for myself whether it’s mostly the medical term for “scarring” (and therefore really quite common among the people in this community) or, as you say, towards the more over-excited end of the scale where it is a bit out of control (and therefore threatening). Ask the doc what it means and do share back
I agree with DickD. The radiologist reads an X-ray or MRI in a very systematic and objective way. It is up to your neurologist to apply this information to your individual case to determine what it means for YOU.
Sorry for your results, but keep in mine a lot of times the people during the MRI results aren’t expert’s, It happened few months ago to us , the MRI Tech reported my spouse had a spinal infection, but they are not experts in MRI’S once we visited our neurosurgeon he even stated that the MRI readers sometimes don’t know what their seeing, at so try not to read into it to much until your main doctor looks at images themselves , hope all is ok,
Hopefully everything is okay & definitely wait on the neuro to explain the results as I was subject to a MRI a few years ago, which reported my AVM had returned 10 years later… this was incorrect & upon further review by my neurosurgeon confirmed it was previous scarring from my surgery & not regrowth… God bless!
