My little angel on Feb 8th 2009, was admitted to pediatric ICU late at night, she had been fine, went to bed for school, and my son and daughter in law, where woke up by her sister ad midnight, Sabrina was screaming and scratching and would not wake up. At first my son thought she was having a nightmare, but he couldnt wake her up, and she began vomiting blood. When the ambulance got them to the hospital, they told my son, she was having seizures and the test began, with in the next 30 minutes, they found she had a blood clot in the right frontal lobe. With in the next few hour it was determined she has AVM. Apparently an arterery had burst and she stroked. 9 years old little darlin. They then admited her and inserted the probe to measure the pressure and we waited as they placed her in a comostose her for 3 weeks at least while her body tried to disolve the clot on its own, and then the disicion would come as to the way that they would Preceide to treat the avm.
The clot finally disolved and on Feb 23, they let her awake, she had no use of the left side at that point, but she had full awarness, and because she knew how to sign she could communicate to us. Within the next 4 days she was moved and started rehab, then went to in patient rehab in atlanta, and with God and her determination, she was let come home within 2 weeks, she had regain speaking, walking, swallowing, has use of the left arm, but is still rehabing the hand.
Wed she goes to her for her follow up test and the desicion will be made as to treatment. As of now the doctors are telling her parents, the best course as of her age, and to prevent this ever occuring again is to go with the surgery. More to follow
