Recently I saw a segment on “The Doctors” about a lady who had nerve decompression surgery to alleviate a debilitating 20 to 30 year migraine. Emory neurosurgeon deemed my AVM not serious enough to mandate surgical treatment so instead he referred me to a shrink for my head pain ongoing 24/7 since June '07. If he put his hand or other body part into a meat grinder I don’t think he’d appreciate a shrink to help his pain.(Sarcasm apology inserted here)ANYWAY was just wondering if anyone who has either heard of nerve decompression surgery’s success rate or has had the procedure & would share their experience? I’m convinced my situation is due to my AVM. I feel I’m in a catch-22. Not candidate for AVM surgery but left to deal with pain so severe it has rendered me useless as a productive part of society. Tried pain mgmt but dc’d bc I didn’t want to be dependent upon pain meds. The meds just rendered me into a space cadet with head pain. Any info would be very much appreciated!
Thanks!

This does not bode well for the nerve decompression, G:

My suggestion? I think it's time to see another neurosurgeon. I have no idea what "not serious enough to mandate surgical treatment" means for a brain avm. Inoperable avms and high-risk avms -- that I understand. "Not serious" avms? I don't know what those are.
