Hello forum friends, I hope this is finding everyone enjoying their weekend as we welcome the autumnal equinox.
As some of you here may remember I used to live in New Mexico. Because there was no one there who could perform spinal angios and embos I had been going to the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix since 2006. Last year though I moved to western North Carolina, near Asheville.
I'll be vising my PC here soon to discuss neurologist recommendations, and from there I'll be investigating the possibility of someone in NC who may be able to do my angios and embos.
I've been doing some searches on the site here for info for NC and am finding a few leads. But I thought I'd also take the more direct approach and ask the membership if anyone has a personal recommendation for a terrific neurologist in the Asheville area, and also recommendations for hospitals in the state known for treating AVM patients. My AVM and aneurysm are in the middle of my spinal cord (intramedullary), and I know it's asking an awful lot, but if anyone knows of someone who specifically has experience with us spine people, that would be incredibly great. ;-)
I have to admit that I'm feeling a little apprehensive and insecure about going someplace other than the Barrow for treatments. Every time I've been there I've felt I could palpate the individual and collective expertise and experience of the doctors and hospital staff. The level of care and consideration for both the person and patient feels secure and safe, and all that. I am totally open to searching for appropriate and adequate care here, and will give the docs and facilities here a fair chance. But I also wouldn't beat myself up if I decided I'd feel better continuing to travel to the Barrow. Then of course my rational side kicks in and says, 'And now it's farther and more expense to travel, etc.'.
Anyway, anyone have someone to recommend they think is among the top-notch in our condition in NC?
Thanks in advance!
