I had surgery about six months ago and in order to put the section of skull back in place they used several titanium plates. For about the past month when i dry my hair with a towel I can feel one of them moving or something. Anyone else had this problem or know what it is??
I’d call your DR just to ask.
But Chari had pieces of her skull removed for surgery (twice). I think they just used stitches to replace it, drilling small holes in each side. They put some bone grindings (?) and stuff to increase the speed of growth so it would go together quicker. You could feel some squishiness or movement of her “plate” for awhile. Think it’s solid now–will have to ask her–but it’s been 5 years at least.

I had a bone flap removed for my surgery and replaced using three titanium bolts at the end. Several months later, as the bone started to mend, one of the pins became a bit loose and started to rattle. I could often push on it and hear a clicking sound. My wife asked what the sound was, i told her and she got all freaked out. I ran it by my surgeon and he told me that it is not uncommon and also nothing to worry about. It came and went for almost a year and is now more or less anchored into position and is going nowhere. I can, however, still feel a couple of the bolts under my scalp if I press in the right spots.
Thanks Jake…that sounds like the same thing…it only concerned me because it has just been 6 months since surgery…Thanks for your help…glad i came across this website!

Hi Marshall, I had a problem with my bone plate coming loose but they repaired it 19 years ago and haven’t had any problems with it since.

Hi Marshall,
My husband said that he has a couple. He doesn’t even know that his is in there.
After talking to my neurosurgeon he said that it is probably just scar tissue moving around. Still a little questionable but he hasn’t been wrong yet!
I had a craniotomy too and they used a numbe rof very small titanium plates. I few time I have leaned my head against my hand and hear a little crack a feel a little shift in my skull. The doctor said its no big deal.
